You Are Incompetent, Resign- Eastern Ndc Tells Minister

The Eastern Regional Secretariat of the opposition National Democratic congress is demanding the resignation of the eastern regional minister, Hon Eric Kwakye Daffour over his display of gross incompetence in the activities of Fulani herdsmen in the Kwahu East District of the Eastern Region.

The Fulani herdsmen have for the past few weeks been terrorizing residents at Hweehwee, Oboyan, Mpaemum, Dwerebease and its environs; all in the Kwahu East District. Schools have been closed down and economic activities in the area have come to a halt. About eight people lost their lives with several others sustaining injuries in separate reprisal attacks in the area since the attack started.

The Eastern Regional Coordinating Council has outlined measures it is putting in place to restore calm in the area such as national dialogue on cattle rearing, facilitation of dialogue between leadership of the communities among others.

In a statement issued by the NDC Eastern Regional Secretariat and signed by its Secretary, Mr. Mark-Oliver Kevor, it charged the minister to expedite action and bring calm to the area or resign.

Speaking in a radio interview on Okwawu FM, an Nkawkaw based radio station, Mr. Kevor said, the effects of the nomadic activities of the Fulani herdsmen was not a new phenomenon but its consequences have aggravated within these few months and.

“What is worst is that government seems to throw its hands in despair, thereby signaling to the people it has no solution to the periodic menace and the regional minister responding to the issue also said he was not captain planet to fly to the place to restore calm which means he has been overwhelmed by the situation”, he said.

Mr. Kevor posited that, the lackadaisical attitude of Hon Eric Kwakye Darfour to “provide short, medium and long term solutions suggest he is either incompetent, has a commercial interest in cattle rearing in the area or is a beneficiary of the nomadic activities in the area.”

He further called on government to as a matter of urgency deal with the rising lawlessness in the area since it has the ultimate responsibility to protect its citizens and properties.

Meanwhile, the Kwahu Youth for Social Development has also descended heavily on the regional minister over his posture in dealing with the Fulani issue.

In a statement signed by its president, Tettey Solomon, it said the comments made by the minister that there are no laws in the country which tend to guide the rearing of cattle and that the region lacks the security expertise and setup to deal with the situation, shows he has no solution to the problem and has thus called on the president to investigate the minister over his comments.
