The Minority in Parliament has called for the recall of Ghana’s High Commissioner to South Africa, H.E George Ayisi-Boateng over a comment he made that he prioritizes the needs of NPP members more than any other Ghanaian.
The Ghana’s High Commissioner to South Africa, George Ayisi-Boateng addressing some members of the NPP student’s wing, Tertiary Student’s Confederacy Network (TESCON) in Kumasi at a ceremony over the weekend to usher in fresh members into the students’ network said he prioritizes members of the NPP and members of TESCON in his dealings in South Africa.
He said while entreating other government appointees to follow suit and satisfy party members that “this government is doing its best to create job opportunities and me for instance, I told my people over there that, it is because of NPP that I’m here, so the NPP man is my priority. I told them when NDC was in power it was Kwesi Ahwoi who was there; now, we are in power, so Ayisi-Boateng is here with you. My topmost priority is the problems of an NPP person before any other Ghanaian take it or leave it.”
Commenting on the issue on Okay FM, an Accra based radio station, the member of Parliament for North Tongu in the Volta Region who is the Ranking Member of the Foreign Affairs committee of Parliament, Hon Okudzeto Ablakwa said, it is unfortunate for a person of Ayisi-Boateng’s caliber to think that way. According to him, it is the responsibility of all government appointees to serve the interest of the state and not their own interests.
“Both NPP, NDC or any other political party’s members are all Ghanaians therefore it will be very unfortunate for an appointee to prioritize their members before other Ghanaians,” he said.
Hon. Okudzeto Ablakwa further stated that the comment by H.E Ayisi-Boateng is more disastrous and suicidal than that of the former deputy minister of Agriculture, William Quaittoo.
